This week our 5th graders discussed the election of Kamala Harris to the office of Vice President. They researched her life and shared all of the ways her ascendancy to this position is truly historic: she is the first woman, first Black person, and first Southeast Asian person to be elected Vice President of the United States. Our students learned about her childhood, her parents' immigration from India and Jamaica, and her time spent at Howard University, an historically Black university.

Fifth grade has had a great week! The weather has been incredible and we have spent a lot of time outdoors. 

In next steps class, students discussed the difference between text and email communication.  They worked on perfecting their professional email form by sending a thank you message to a teacher using an email etiquette rubric as a guide.

• The STEAM Lab is cold.  Students are encouraged to have HCA sweatshirt or blazers over their uniforms on STEAM days.
