POETRY TIME!

The 5th grade started their poetry unit this week. They started off writing a simple free verse poem describing themselves and supplemented it with colorful artwork. The students included everything from their favorite celebrities to their pets' names as part of their autobiographical poems. Next they will be learning about (and writing) couplets and haikus! They are also studying the various devices writers utilize to make their poems come alive for the reader such as metaphor, hyperbole, and oxymoron.
